Clocky
I'm in that weird state where it's 5am and I'd blocked out some time to finish one of the umpteen posts in the drafts folder that are 3/4 done (there shall be a blitz shortly), yet my brain isn't loving wrapping my head around any of them enough to finish.
Then it's pointed out that Clocky will be shown on NBC's Today Show at 7:40am EST today, and all is right with the world. I just love this this marvel of absurdity, and remember just having to talk to the brains behind it back when I first came across it, no matter how briefly. If you haven't seen it, it's basically your average alarm clock, except when it goes off, it runs off the dresser and tries to find an inconvenient place to hide while it blares, so you can't just reach over and hit snooze -- you have to get up and find the damn thing to shut it up.
So brilliantly absurd, and it hasn't been shown working on TV much, so it's likely to be the first time most will have ever seen it doing its thing, although I didn't catch whether it'll be the production version (It's supposed to be available for sale not too many months away, and the production version has a smaller body, larger display/snooze-button, multiple colors, etc.) or the prototype shown above.

It's neat, and if under $30 I'll get one, but I want an industrial version to tie to my leg that will DRAG me out of bed. :^)

I'd pay $400 for one of these in an iRobot version (so it cleans the floor as it blares loudly and runs away).

An equally interesting alternative alarm clock popped up on BoingBoing.

That is such a cool toy. I'd buy one.

Wouldn't this thing just run straight off my dresser and into my head? Sure, *that* would get my attention, but I'd have to buy another one. Unless it can take a whack against the wall. That'd be cool.

Now, what DB needs is a robot to automatically turn on the espresso, brew up a double, then pour it on his head to wake him up. :D

Finally, something that will wake me up in the morning.

Gauri Nanda, the inventor, won the 2005 Ig Nobel award in Economics for clocky ;-)

All it needs is a wireless remote for the snooze button. :/

I just got an alarm clock with an oversized display and moved it to an inconvenient part of my room, so I can still read it from my bed without my glasses on, but I *have* to get up to deal with it.

That would be überliciously useful for me. The only problem, of course, is that my room is too cluttered for it to navigate anyway.
