Snakes and Rubies

I got turned onto the Snakes and Rubies event the other day, which is at DePaul University in Chicago on December 3rd, 2005.
Looks like a very cool little deal, where they're having the creator of the Ruby on Rails rumble with the creator of the Django framework (Python) in a good-natured debate on the merits of each. It should be very cool, and propeller-head heavy, so be sure to RSVP if you can go.
It really looks nicely organized -- I especially dug how they setup the user-submitted questions for each on the site, which is slick and simple.

Wow, this looks really interesting. Although I'm not sure I can justify flying out to Chicago (again) for it. On the other hand, I have been searching for an alternative to Rails (I have found it to be buggy and slow) and I love Python. So I may be suckered into going. If I do actually decide to go, I'll post again. But I'm definitely VERY interested.

Django is fantastic, and very quickly evolving. My only complaint isn't really a complaint at all -- the fast development pace will have you re-coding portions of your applications to take advantage of new stuff, usually in a cleaner, more compact way. If you love python, or don't want to take the time to learn ruby, you'll love django.

that's the way it has been with Rails for the past year too. I've rewritten or "upgraded" portions of my office's Intranet at least five times because of changes dictated by new versions of the Rails framework. As it approached 1.0 there has been less massive changes required though.

After usung PHP for a while I thought I'd give this Rails thing a go.
Wow! Seriously - it's the best framework I've encountered (and I've tried several) although a lot is down to the language.
Might have a look as this Django thingybob though...

I am so there.
