Come as you are

We're eight days away from Evening at Adler, and there are a few things I need to lay out, and if you're coming, a few things you need to know...
If you RSVP'd before October 12th your name is in the system and you need not worry. You're in. Unfortunately, if you haven't RSVP'd yet, registration is now closed -- the theater is at max capacity.
The theater only seats ~255, and RSVPs are over 240, and while some may flake out some may well bring along that extra friend and just yesterday someone tried to reserve a block of 20. After talking it over last night, we just have to play it safe as the theater isn't setup for overflow, and its better to have a few empty seats instead of the potential for a massive problem when I start to talk about it more.
I've noted the this in the original post, but I'm happy to report two more Super Friends will be joining the panel, for a total of 10 (+myself):
- August Mueller
Gus's company, Flying Meat, Inc., hit my radar like a rock after I was exposed to a personal wiki solution for Linux called 'Tomboy'. I went looking for an equivalent for OS X, ended up finding VoodooPad, and instantly put my brain in it. Oh, and then there's apps like FlySketch and FlyGesture. Gus has a habit of taking a concept that could easily be cumbersome and complex, then implements it in a way that is straightfoward and simple.
- The Rosyna
It's really, really hard to describe The Rosyna, but I suppose "Anime-loving, sexually-androgynous opinionated programmer for Unsanity, currently responsible for FontCard, Silk, Menu Master, CEE PEE YOU, etc." might work. To my knowledge this is its first appearance outside of the bowels of a WWDC where it doesn't allow itself to be photographed, so at the very least you get to find out what it is.
You can see the final roundup on the original post, but this is it -- although there may be a surprise. Someone asked the other day if I thought I might be overloading the panel, but not really. While 10 guests may seem like a lot, they're all there for a reason, and this is going to be a total of ~2.75 hours of conversation. That's much longer than it seems on paper, and why we'll have a short intermission.
The after-party been locked in 100% as of yesterday, and I'll do a separate post on it after I hear about a ping. Let me just say: Fourty beers on tap, near the planetarium, and free Wi-Fi. This is going to run late, and is going to be a lot of fun. We're going to have our own room and stuff. Chances are someone will be deputized to walk around with a video camera so those who can't make it won't completely miss out. Those under 21 can also attend. :)
I keep getting asked about this, and there will be a video going up as soon as possible after the talk -- we'll have several cameras setup. Sure, a stream would be fun, but it'd also involve bouncing it out and off of others and... It's being worked on, and will happen, and probably end up in the range of 2.75 hours total for the talk, and I'm going to assume people would get annoyed if there wasn't another download of behind-the-scenes stuff from the after-party.
If you'll recall, this is going to be fairly free-form -- one big layered conversation supplanted with seed topics. I'll have a few cards of my own, and there'll be the audience who can ask questions, but I'd like to involve the readers who can't get there as much as possible by letting you give input on what you'd like us to talk about or questions you might have. This is just a heads up so you can kick it around in the back of your head, as the post asking for them will come very soon.
I've had to keep quieter than I'd normally be about the talk (there's a poster and other stuff that'll never see the light of day), because the RSVPs were filing in every time I mentioned it and we hit the danger zone pretty quickly (I'm still reeling from the guy who quit his job early to be sure he'd make it). This has been a word-of-mouth thing. However, I did catch on that a few of you are coming from websites, and can imagine you'd love some short one-on-one time with the participants.
If you're coming representing a site, send me an email and I'll forward you on a list of the contact info for the participants to see if there is a way for you to connect some one-on-one if you have the interest. Some are coming in the night before, some early that day, some right before the talk. As always, there's always the after-party.

Should "sexually-androgenous" be "androgynous" ?

PCU?

"PCU?"
"Everybody gets laid" is from the movie PCU, it is on the fliers they print up for the party at the end of the movie. It is worth seeing Jeremy Piven trying to play a college student. One obscure reference though.

It's a little known fact that the word "full" in Swedish means "drunk".
That's why it's quite fun to se the inebriated cow with his (her?) white russian with the word Full.. Oh well..

VoodooPad is amazing. It and OmniOutliner are my staple apps for OS X

Does it have to be in Chicago? Kansas is underrated for tech shows. :-) I don't think we've had one in... We've never had a good one!

Malta: also, "full" in French means "pregnant."

Those crazy Scandanavians aren't the only ones with little known facts. In New Zealand English "full" also means drunk; really, really drunk.
Which reminds me, beer o'clock is only 3 hours away.

Beer: Not just a breakfast drink anymore!
Every o'clock is beer o'clock.

VoodooPad is awesome. I bought it the day after I started using it. I'm *really* bummed it's not on windows when I can't use the mac (or rather, I guess I'm bummed I have to use the PC).

Excellent! I'm really excited to know that the date is fast approaching.. just one thing I've been pondering... how well do you think "I forgot my ID in my other pants, Mr. Bar Doorman, sir" will work?

I met the unsane in your crowd at the last MWSF. They're cool people.

...and by RSVPing, you mean if we put our name and "RSVP=2" and so on in the comments of this entry way back on, say, September 20, 2005 at 10:55 PM...that constitutes RSVPing, right?
I hate to be pedantic, but Atlanta is a long way from Chicago, and I hate to hurl things at a perfectly nice planetarium.
So..right?

That would be correct -- I compiled the list from emails and those comments, so you'll have no problems.

In New Zealand English "full" also means drunk; really, really drunk.Likewise in Australia, although I worked with a kiwi who used it more often (yes, describing himself most of the time).
Actually, I think half the words in the language can be applied to mean "drunk" in A/NZ English.

I'm stoked about this. Sounds like it'll be a blast.
