If I'm not reading it, does it still exist?
Had an outage earlier today, which was compounded by the fact that I've been dealing with some stuff and was nowhere near a computer for the majority of it.
Haven't taken the time to really look into what happened, but the ~340 trackback pings and ~140 comment spams sitting in my inbox are a likely early suspect. Anywho, things should be up now, sorry for inconvenience, yadda yadda.
[Update:] Yep, it's the spammers, who just don't get pinging a site with hundreds of comment/tracking spams at once -- with 50 urls in each -- is going to kill things when its already under load. Entirely unamused, but the virus rarely realizes its killing the host and servers don't like a load of 70+.

i was starting to wonder if you had a server sitting down on the new orleans or gulfcoast area that was wiped out from the hurricane. being up north, i thought it to be a little strange for you to have some southern server setup, but since i am down near this region, and not having had power for 36 hours, it was the first thing that came to mind. i guess it was something else.
now they're saying i may not have my power restored until Sept 10th.
damn katrina!

I say ignore your inbox. If your life is run by your blog, maybe it's time to pull on the brakes. While I enjoy (most of) your posts, I believe I could survive a day without one. As I always say, if it starts to interfere with my drinking, forget about it.

Have you considered adding a word verification system like Blogger recently added? The system does seem to work fairly well. Although, at the expense of the visually impaired.

Re: Chris's comment, what about adding a simple math question instead? Some sort of word problem involving multivariable calculus. y'know, easy stuff. ;)

I think a skill testing question would be a funny addition to the drunkenblog comments section.
(4 + 6) * 3 = _____

Easy maths might be countered, but I like the word problem idea. Maybe we could still go with the simple arithmetic if you specified some random simple rules first. (ie. different bases, different order of ops, modulo n, etc.)
Multivar calc is still too easy, imo. I saw we ramp it up to BVP's. :)

Do you prefer viruses that stay unnoticed? :)

This is why email notification of comments is off by default in Movable Type now. All you're doing is mail-bombing your server. Why not just check the most recent comments when you login to MT? Switching to dynamic pages would help as well!

What version of MT are you using here?

DB is running Movable Type 2.661.

Drunken Batman or Drunken Irish Cleric. :-)
Got it, DB. The title is a humorous reference to Berkeleian metaphysics:
