Security Update 2005-007 v1.1
Apple posted Security Update 2005-007 v1.1 early this morning...
Security Update 2005-007 v1.1 replaces Security Update 2005-007 v1.0 for Tiger systems Mac OS X v10.4.2. Users who have already installed v1.0 on Tiger systems should install v1.1.Security Update 2005-007 v1.1 provides a combined 32- and 64-bit version of LibSystem to replace the 32-bit version that was delivered in v1.0. No other changes have been made in version 1.1.
Well, that explains it. They just forgot the 64-bit version in the last one... Yeah, I'm sticking to everything I said yesterday, and then some.

Whoever actually was personally responsible for this goof should have their job put under review. But even at that, how could it possibly make it through QA? Rediculous. Better yet, why do I need to now download the entire package again just for 1.1, rather than just the changed file? Software Update should be able to tell I have 1.0 and only re-download the required files.

I don't see how Apple can expect to be considered an option for people who take their computers seriously when they don't even test updates against major applications.

You're a bunch of crying pussies. Bring on the posts about switching to Windows because they do it better.
Someone was probably hung-over and just didn't notice this. I blame it George Bush.

Now that that's out of the way...
Software has bugs. Humans build this software so it's inevitable. Yeah it sucks that some people's programs wouldn't run for two days, but that's what happens when someone screws up and you adopt fast.
Apple does need to get a better QA team (fire the manager Apple, it's always managements fault because they all suck balls). I suggest hiring drunkenbatman here. Make sure he gets to write the description of the updates so they take you an afternoon to read....that would be sweet! =)

Dude, apologism, 'suffer in silence and be glad' and damage control aren't the way to go. Software companies already get away with murder, and Apple even more so.

All software vendors are expected to meet a certain standard with testing. One of the highest burdens is on OS vendors. If Microsoft can do better, Apple has bigger problems than a bunch of crying pussies.

Folks, I don't recommend the v1.1 patch. Apps are crashing left and right. I can't get Interface Builder to even launch, so there is definitely something wrong.

And he would be forced to spellcheck and use proper grammer ("Wonky" would be funny in a KB article). I think DB would crack too many heads at Apple, but they do need someone like him.

I've had problems with V1.1 aswell, Finder goes into a constant crash/restart cycle and from the apple discussions I'm not the only one with this problem.
V1.2 anyone?

Hmm... well anyone else find that Pages is grinding like a bi-a-tch now? As in about four weeks behind the typing?
And I thought blooming safari was bad.
Ah well back to lowbrow it is then, work is finished until I simmer down some.
P.S. The v1.0 update seemed to do some funky things like alter volume and brightness levels.
v1.1 now seems to break other things... somethings fishy here and its not trichomonas...

I, too, have fallen victim to Security Update 2005-007 v1.1. What puzzles me, though, is that I run Tiger v.10.4.2 on a G4 iMac, and from reading these posts, it seems as though problems have been occurring only on G5 systems. Well, let me tell you, this is not so. My scanner sofrware has stopped working completely after this install. It runs some sort of OCR Module to start up, and this application crashes every time, so the software never starts. This really pisses me off because I am a professional photographer, and I use my scanner all the time. It worked perfectly before the update. I thought these security updates were supposed to improve my system, not make it worse. Has anyone else had problems with a G4 system after installing this update?

This was a really stupid bug that even the most basic QA should've spotted. Does Apple do any QA at all? This is an embarrassment! Microsoft, for all their failings, don't often screw up patches this badly. But it's becoming regular for Apple. Lucky I'm still on 10.3 so I don't get all these 10.4-specific problems.
