Stumbling towards completion (and a request for mirrors)
Every once in awhile I wonder just how long I could go without posting before people start to wonder if I've been hit by a bus. My schedule for posting on the site can be so erratic that I'd peg long-time readers at about 2 months, and it scales down to a few weeks depending on how new someone is to the site.
I haven't been hit by a bus, and everything is A-OK with the exception of my annoyance meter tipping the scales lately. And I'm very, very tired. I've been having to deal with some legal issues centered around a company we've talked about before, we'll talk about again, and which I'll elaborate on more soon. They've certainly tripped up my life a bit, as well as making me entirely unamused.
The perpetually-ongoing project that I've been working on for ages is pretty much done, and while everything that's gone on in the last month isn't in it (it'll come out), it should be evident where the time went. Thank you for your patience, the scope of this one is just insane. Trust me, I have well over 130 hours into this now and I'm ready for this period to be over so I can go onto other things. I'm just having to be very, very careful and really cross the i's and dot the t's.
Crazy issue after issue keeps coming up with this, and I'm only one guy, but there is one thing you can help with. If you have web space on a reasonably fast connection (DSL+) with 215 to 330 Megabytes of space and would be willing to act as a mirror for some ancillary files, it would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Time is getting pretty short.
The words "I love you" might be involved, and you can rest easy that if you mirror it, no one will actually be downloading 330 Megs worth. If you're interested and you can help, just shoot me an email so I can give you the link to the .tar.gz and a little explanation so you can go into it with your eyes open.

Sign me up, drunken one.

Dunno if you already thought of this, but have you thought about linking to all your content needing mirroring through the Coral Cache?
And since I don't want to be "that guy" who provides only useless information, I can probably mirror the stuff for you provided it isn't
A) Illegal
B) Going to get me in some kind of trademark/copyright lawsuit
3) Otherwise get me in trouble

(LOL) #3 sounds like a given with D.B. :-)

Starting when, and for about how long?

Sent you an email with an offer to host. Sorry to hear about the legal troubles. :-( You are easily one of my favorite sites and hope it work out ok

I have about 100MB free on a hosted server on lost-oasis.net. It's far from the 300MB you're asking for, but I recently upgraded it to 600Mo, if you're interested in it, send me an email.

Yep...I can help out too. I have the required space/speed. Let me know the details when you're ready.

Drop me a line. MacSlash might be able to help out.

What would you consider fast? You said DSL+, but that pretty much opens it to non Dial-ups. I have a 8000 / 512 connection. The 512 up is not what I would consider fast, but if you need it, I can help. How long would you need?

I have some space on my server left and even some traffic (around 500Gbyte/month) so if you need a mirror in Europe (Germany) drop me a note.

I have space and bandwidth that you can use too. I have unlimited bandwidth and around 800 to 850 mb you can use. Drop me a line.

DB - you're not on IM. Let me know exactly what files you need hosted, and I may be able to bend the rules and throw it on my OC-192 line.
Better snap to it - I am drinking, and sobriety may make me see the light. :)

DB, don't sweat the lapse in posts.
You're readers are still around, as you can tell. :)
Just don't let the lawyers get you down.
And I'll throw my hat into the ring for web space if you need it.

Ah, the age old question.....how long will she wait for me?
Who's insolent enough to mess with my drunkenbatman? (Notice they waited until I was overseas to implement their nefarious plot?) The female dictators of the M.A.W.B. will set things to right when we rule the world. They are apparently unaware of our impending ascension and the evilness of St. Kate. (Trust me on this. The nursing home visits are a ruse.)
On another note, I thought of you when I posted the warning to Beware Hypnotic Cows. (Not that I imagine you to be senile. It was the cow connection.)
Hang in there. You're the only one I know besides me that I can count on to be out there working at 4:30 AM. Remember, weekends are for semi-conciousness.

I have a decentralised Torrent up for this data. Email me if you are running the latest version of Azureus (2.3.0.0) and want to help seeding (no other clients will work).
This is going to be huge people, that is all I can say.

Ben Stanfield has the foulest mouth I have ever seen on the Web, let alone the Blogs. Don't ever think of criticizing him. Of course, HE can trash anyone he wants to via his MacSlash blog.
Posted by: AOLJerry at August 31, 2005 05:30 PM
Ben Stanfield is a slanderer. AOL has done good things for its subscribers in the recent past. I did not like AOL when Case ran the company. Case does not run AOL today. Ben Stanfield will trash anyone anytime for any reason.

What is the matter with Ben Stanfield? Why is he so opinionated and totally wrong? Especially when he is talking out his butt?
Posted by: Former Young Dem. at September 12, 2005 02:31 PM
I am a former Arlington Young Democrat. The hatred by Arlington Young Democrats toward "enemies" of the Democratic Party was too frightening. Ben Stanfield is one reason I'm no longer a YD.

FORMER Young Democrat, thanks to Ben Stanfield.

Ben Stanfield is a Loser. I'm self employed and make my living from advertising design with my MAC (OS-X) and I pay the retirement and health care benefits for the Federal on-the-job retirees who spend their "work days" posting their drivel to McSlash.
Posted by: alida at September 23, 2005 07:28 PM
Ben Stanfield is a Troll from Planet Intel. Leave my MAC alone, Gates.

I've got pretty high speed, but very limited space. Otherwise I'd offer to mirror for you :-(
