Matt Groening Apple ad

Because it's just a retro sort of week, and I hadn't seen these for ages, I figured I'd pass on a link of the uber-cool Apple Computer brochure Matt Groening (of The Simpsons) did for said Apple back in 1989. I sorta wish I wasn't linking to a .Mac server, as it's the sort of thing I'd hate to see disappear of the web.
The actual copy is pretty much verbatim of all their advertising towards students (and weirdly enough, corporate users) of the time, but Groening just gives it such charm. These cartoons predate The Simpsons, and are from waaaay back when he used to the 'Life in Hell' comic strip, so don't expect "eat my shorts'".

I have 4 copies of the brochure Matt did as well as a pile of original HyperCard brochures, all the early Macworlds, Byte mag and all Newsweek spreads, and pretty much all the early stuff. I didn't save them thinking eBay (there was no eBay then) but because I loved the spirit of the marketing campagn.
Oh, I also have a Beta Switcher Disk that Andy Hertzfeld gave me at the very first Macworld exp right after showing me his Switcher app which Sculley had not seen or agreed to yet (it's in his new book...).
And, 4 128K motherboards, two 128K cases (signatures), etc.
And, I lived in LA when Groening started publishing Life in Hell for the LA Reader and I have a few years of those too, although they're turning brown... Many of those have come out in subsequent books... not all but many.
My wife would like to take me and my stupid collections and feed us all to the woodstove. Well, maybe not me but certainly life in hell and the apple crap. Of course, one nice "strike" on eBay and she'll change her tune... I have no plans to ever unload any of this stuff, I like it too much.
... beta HyperCard disk set signed by Bill Atkinson... Steve Jobs gave me my first 128K Mac and I have all the paperwork on that deal with his signatures all over it... blah blah blah.
Okay, I'm an idiot, I admit it.
You know a lot of other interesting people have done stuff for Apple like Groening: Douglas Adams, etc. I have collected all of their stuff too. All the early Knowledge Navigator videos and quicktimes and print stuff...
Sorry, I'll stop now before you all kill me.

Anyone know where to find those old Life in Hell comics? I'm what you would call a 'massive' Simpsons fan so I'd love to take a look at Groening's earlier work.
You might want to try here, it's one of the ones I have.

The early LA Reader stuff is not all in there and what's in there is not everything that was in all the individual books but I agree, it's a good complilation if you're not after a particular, rare strip.

much appreciated :-)
btw, how do i quote a previous comment (or an excerpt from an entry)? How do I achieve the indent with the brown text?

Basic HTML tags will work, well at least for now. So to get the quote, you want the blockquote start and ending tags. Italics, bold, strong, links, it's all good.

Matt Groening still writes a new strip of "Life In Hell" each week, and it is syndicated to hundreds of newspapers.
