Christopher Reeve Dies
Had the news that Christopher Reeve passed away fall across my newsreader a few minutes ago, and it's left me a bit sad. Excerpt:
Christopher Reeve, the star of the "Superman" movies whose near-fatal riding accident nine years ago turned him into a worldwide advocate for spinal cord research, died Sunday of heart failure, his publicist said. He was 52.
It can feel a little campy now to look back at the Superman movies, and we won't dare talk about some of the later sequels... or the spawned Supergirl film that somehow sucked in Peter O'Toole.
Those first few Superman films just rocked for the time. Hard.
And as a kid, Christopher Reeve was the guy who really made you believe a man in colored spandex and a cape could fly.
Most of these movies came out when I was barely a toddler, but I was lucky enough to be a kid when cable hit and in between repeated viewings of Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo they'd often show all sorts of movies that were pure candy to my brain, and the older Superman movies were some of the best of them.
Good memories there. Godspeed, and thanks for those.
I'll be wearing my blue Superman shirt today.

I was just flipping through channels, saw it on Headline News, and did a double-, triple-take. Very, very sad that he passed away. What a courageous way he faced his circumstances after the accident.
I tried to be him on the playground, and I respected him a great deal as an adult. I will miss him.

Always sad to see someone die.
However, it saddens me more that is a much bigger epidemic, cutting down our veterans and health care providers, killing more people worldwide than AIDS, but since it's not a hip Hollywood cause, it's ignored.
Not to detract from DB, but it's something that always bugged me. Reeve gets standing ovations from the world since he was "Superman" because his gilded life allowed him to go horse riding - meanwhile those who sacrificed for the greater cause face the greatest epidemic and health issue today.

In its place, in its time, Monkey. But this article is about Chris Reeve. Don't diminish your own conviction (worthy it may be), by using our feelings as a stepping stool for yours.
Respectfully.

He was deteriorating so quickly before out eyes so perhaps this in some ways is a blessing and my thoughts are with his family and loved ones and I am hopeful his death will not be used for political ends

When I was young I used to wear a towel as a cape and pretend I was superman.... yes to a kid he made it seem real. God bless

Sad to see him gone, but sadder to see him towards the end. I was reading Time at the library and the pictures of his wife and him together were obviously air brushed. He was just not doing well.
AS FOR BREAKIN 2, I think I remember it... guy named Turbo dancing on the ceiling?

It is indeed sad news. Such a courageous man. I would like to link to his foundation if any readers would like to read more about his cause.
