Of protocols and pratfalls

Not everyone gets to say they know someone who has actually broken their back, let alone it being a family member. That's going to affect the blog schedule, and already has as far as this last weekend is concerned, but long term the person should be fine. They were tossed from a horse and now 20% of a vertebrae is crushed, which hopefully means after a period of severe annoyance it'll heal. Giving them shots of tequila when it was thought it was just a muscle spasm might not have been the best course of action, but hey.

It's also worth clarifying something I said in an earlier post, which I said the MSN protocol was win-centric. The confusion seemed to stem both from who/where I got this information and whether it was valid so I've had to clarify with some people... it didn't come from anyone who commented, and as it was worded was worth arguing with.

Win-centric probably wasn't the right term, it's just how my head thinks of something entirely expected to be used in-house by Microsoft. A protocol is a protocol is a protocol, true. But the info I have says that in terms of actual support, the MS protocol wasn't/isn't a lot of fun to work with and it seemed that they went out of their way to do things in maddening ways to others, but that they make sense when you realize they're trying to concrete their hold.

I'll stick by that. :p
