Blog gunk
Been a rough week, its a good thing I don't really blog about personal stuff. But the good news is that I've gotten a big chunk of bloggywork out the door, namely shot off the last round of questions for the next chat which has taken way longer on both our parts than expected, and got the first round of questions off for the following chat, and made a start on the research for the one after that.
The next chat will be with the guys from AdiumX, which is worth a look if you haven't looked lately. Most who have are familiar with it from the 1.6 days, but its come a long way. Go get it now and check it out so you have something to say when you read the chat, plus it takes some hurt off their servers by spreading out the traffic of my 12loyal readers.
Speaking of traffic, I've played around with adding a few adds to DrunkenBlog. Sorry, its kinda lame and I'm not really expecting much from it, but if it helps offset the bandwidth when things get hairy that would be kinda cool. If they're too obtrusive let me know and I'll prolly just take them down.
I even *gasp* waded through and decimated my inbox, which had gotten a bit out of hand. Felt good, yay me. But there's also a bunch of random linkage in the inbox, so it might as well be put to use to feed the blog which has been a bit malnourished lately...
- Selling less for more
In Why Apple Needs to Shine Up, BusinessWeek has some interesting figures regarding Apples machines. Basically the average price differential between a Windows box and a mac has gone up ~250%. Meaning they're selling less and charging more. Feels like we've kinda been here before. - It looks like I may have become an adverb. That's sorta wiggy, but amusing.
- I hate these people.
I know, I know, hate is a strong word. And I've never met them, so I'm sure they're nice people. Maybe with enough alcohol I might be persuaded to like their Madonna (hey, she just sorta lays around & puts out, my kinda girl), but they're on the shit list. I really wish I had the money to sponsor a Korean family and move them in right next door, just to freak them out. - Get your naturist on

- I swing my crossbow!!!
I don't often post about political stuff, mostly because the race is really boring at the moment and it's not as though most people really care about the issues in the current race. Sure, they say they do, but the most vehement of the lot are actually made up their mind to vote for someone who doesn't really stand for what they stand for, they just happen to like them more than the other guy. Which is partially why I found this page so amusing, its a satirical look at what the democratic candidates (yeah, its dated) would choose as a character if they played dungeons and dragons. It's spot-on enough to be very amusing... sorta makes me wanna vote for Nader. I doubt it'll be nearly as funny if you've never played D&D, but you'll get the points. Although I only played it like 3 times when I was a kid and never even owned my own set of dice, so I'm sure I'm going to get 20 emails where people who show up at the back of bookstores in cloaks to play secluded games will email me with its inaccuracies. But gawd, the John Edwards one had me rolling. - I swing my lightsaber!!!
An unkind review of the Turkish remake of Star Wars. Not sure why I found this so amusing, but lines like "...Luke fights his way into a separate cave and rescues Han from the Lite-Brite he was loosely tied to with phone cords." - SimLog
Wired has an article about a nifty little program that basically acts as a real-time SimCity for webserver traffic logs. Yeah, this would prolly break down in a real hurry for anything remotely complex, but its a start to see what works and what doesn't, and I have a real soft spot for anything trying to make it easier to grab quick trends from an infoglut. I freak out about the orbs they're selling now, which are basically glowing balls that you can control with software... I.E., you might throw it in the corner and have it glow green when its under normal load, and red when things get hairy. With the masses of data we're exposed to growing exponentially, this sort of stuff is going to get bigger and bigger. - The story that almost became a story, but not really, so lets devote more time to it
There's actually a pretty interesting accounting of what Alexandra Polier went through when a story broke in the Sun that she'd had an affair with John Kerry. Kind of fascinating to follow the web of how a story like that can spin outwards...

You know there's an "Orb" module for Konfabulator right? I think it's even cooler than the real Ambient Orb personally; the photos of the orb look way better/sleeker than they do in real life, IMHO.

I'm not seeing any ads here...Perhaps it's just Mozilla AdBlock that's making them not show up?

Turkish Star Wars: You have to wonder at the possibility that there are alternate movie industries out there that create knockoffs of the worst Hollywood blockbusters, with all the whizbang action and crass violence emphasized.
Kerry Intern: I have to note that Polier doesn't, and probably cannot, prove that she didn't have an affair with Kerry, just as the press didn't prove that she did. However, if I had to judge from the inconclusive evidence in the article that she wrote, I would lean towards saying she did have an affair (She just seems loopy and off-kilter enough to have attempted it.). Regardless, the takeaway is that the network effect engendered by the internet and reporters' willingness to run with any story have created an environment where a couple of dead leaves falling to the ground allows a lot of people to infer that a major storm has occurred. And it highlights the ludicrousness of a sexual affair having anything to do with these campaigns to begin with.

That comment about "Madonna" was soooo wroooong.
At my old workplace we had one of the Orbs you mentioned if it was frosted. It was very cool and looked great next to an iMac. :)
