HPV vaccine?
Some of those grant dollars must be going to some good use, as it clinical trials with a new HPV vaccine are showing it to be completely effective.
And yes, I said HPV, not HIV. Don't know what it is? You're not alone, it freaks me out to realize how many people have no clue regarding it, how it is transmitted (um, how it is transmitted is scary as hell, basically just through genital/oral contact). Its scary shite. Hell, I ran into some people when I lived in Las Vegas who, due to their *cough* line of work, should prolly have had a clue as to what the hell HPV was, yet didn't.
I got into learning about it when a friend contracted it, and in order to be a good friend to her while she went through it I wanted to know what I was dealing with. It wigged me out. Women seem to have the real short end of the stick when it comes to it, as figures I've heard have said its responsible for up to 50% of all cervical cancers in older women... and its just extremely wide spread. The article above says up to 90% of cervical cancers, so, ew.
There were some schools in california that were reporting 60% infection rates among the female student body... most had no clue, till they were told by the doctor... and the girls had no clue until they went in for their physical. There's a lot of eye-opening info out there on it.
Luckily, I'm notgeeks aren't in any real danger of contracting it.

I have been fighting HPV off and on for about 12 years. Flairs up now and then. What I am wondering and hoping is if the new vaccine could help prevent any further outbreaks and does it matter what strain of HPV I have whether or not the vaccine would help me. I have had surgery, and acid treatment in the doctor's office and for the past 2-3 years I have been using Premarin vaginal cream 2-3 times a week to keep the vagina healthy. My oncology-gynecologist recommended this treatment to stave off another incident. Please let me know what you think.I appreciate your help. Thanks

Hello. I think I may have HPV. Im not sure. I have found 6 little bumps on and around my penis. They dont look like little cauliflowers though, like some of the web info has suggested. There just little skin colored bumps. Should I get these checked out? Another Question. If I do have HPV, do I have this for the rest of my life? And if I do, and the "virus clears up" am I still able to pass this on to a sex partner? Thanks for the help.

I just found out today that I have HPV. I need to know more about it, I thought I had the starting stages of cancer but thank God I don't. I'm still in shock that I have HPV and would like to know all there is to know about it. I think it would make it easier on me to come to terms and at peace with myself if I knew more about it. I have been very upset all day and I am also very scared. The thing that upsets me the most is when the time comes and I meet that right man that I fall in love with and decide I want to spend the rest of my life with, I will have to tell him about the biggest mistake I made at a young age. I would like to know more about HPV so I can make amends with myself and move on.
